For People Who Don’t Like Selling…

Not everyone enjoys selling. In fact this year I asked several audiences at CommunitySoul Business Development Groups, who liked selling. 8% said they did.

I suspect that the 92% who said they don’t like selling also don’t like being sold to. And they probably think that sales is about something you do to someone. But actually it’s not…

Selling, if done well, is an opportunity to offer what you do that may help  someone. This person at all times has full freedom of choice. And you’re not a pushy person so all you’re doing is opening them up to the possibility of what you offer.

Sharing the Good that you Bring

What if someone, somewhere is sitting at home or in their office, struggling and in need of what you’re offering. If you’re not letting people know: “Hi I’m here, this is what I do!” then the danger is the idea sits on the shelf and no one ever finds out about the help you offer.

Facing the issues that stop you sharing your contribution to the world

I’ve often said that by being in business you enter a hero’s adventure. Working for yourself will bring up personal issues. For some it might be overcoming shyness or developing self-confidence, and in terms of selling this can be about feeling good enough or overcoming the fear of rejection.

Something I went through was understanding that if I failed to overcome what stopped me from sharing what I did, I would be denying lots of people the things they needed. So what worked for me was tapping into my will to contribute knowledge for the betterment of other people. For you it may be something different.

Finding the courage, makes a difference

An example I can give you is: earlier in the year I was giving a talk on personal development. The day after, a lady sent me an email and thanked me for my talk. She said it had given her hope. She said that after years of suffering from domestic violence she now felt she could turn things around.

So I encourage you to discover ways to overcome whatever stops you from selling the difference you make.

How to Make a Difference and a Profit

How do you feel about making a difference and making a profit? For some people that means you’ll be taking your great ideas and maybe doubling your income. And that means your great ideas, your passions, the things you really care about are going to be reaching more people and having a bigger impact in the world.

If you’re going to double your business income, you might be forgiven for thinking, “U-oh does that means I’m going to be working twice as hard or twice as fast or twice as long?”

I hope not! If that was true that would mean you might be working 14-23 hours a day and that’s not healthy! So what you want to know is how to create a business that doubles in profit on a regular basis, reduces the time you spend in it, and contributes to making a better world?

That’s a big question, but it’s a great question because it drives at the kind of lifestyle most of us got into business to have – one that makes money, gives us freedom and creates a contribution or a legacy.

So how do we do that?

I was listening to a former Olympic medalist speak the other day and he was saying, that no medalist wins because they work 2 or 3 times harder than the rest. No one wins a race by 2 or 3 times as much as anyone else. It’s fractions of an inch and 100ths of a second that make a difference.

So it’s the little things they do in training, day after day, that make the difference when it counts. And it’s these little things that will win you medals. It’s these little things that save you time, energy and money. And it’s these little things, subtle things I want to show you, so you can make a big difference, without selling your soul.

So, how does this translate into business?

In your marketing it may be one subtle thing that makes the difference between no sales and a bucket load – this is your fraction of an inch and your 100th of a second.

And it’s the person who claims gold that goes down in the record books and who hits the headlines and the guys who end up second, third and fourth who get forgotten.

The frustration is to have a product or service that is fantastic, but to end up being forgotten, just because of a 100th of a second or a fraction of an inch… especially when your service or product makes the world a better place and the person who gets gold doesn’t.

So you have your vision. You have your ideas and your ideals and you want to go out there and make a difference. That’s wonderful. And you may just need the fine-tuning to your business techniques or mindset to make your business rock and for you to profit from your heart-felt passions and ideals.

We know that some people have glorious visions for what they’d like to achieve, but often they’re not striking gold. This can be solved. You just need to find a place where you can get the resources and the inspiration of resourcefulness.
